Definition
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It applies to adult men and women.
Formula
BMI = weight (kg) / height (m) squared
BMI Categories
Underweight: Below 18.5
Normal: 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight: 25 - 29.9
Obese: 30 or above
Example
Weight: 70 kg, Height: 1.75 m
BMI = 70 / (1.75 x 1.75) = 22.86 (Normal)
Limitations
BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat. Athletes may have high BMI due to muscle mass.
